This is a second part of the previous blog which will go over the last two key points of what to expect when getting dental implants. Read the first part of this blog here.
4. Implant Placement: When the day to start the implants arrives, we will create a slender opening in the bone and place the finely-machined titanium implant. Titanium is used for dental implants, as well as joint replacements, because it bonds more thoroughly to human bone than any other metal. We will then attach a temporary tooth to the implant and allow time for the area to heal thoroughly. From time to time, we will examine the areas that have received implants to ensure they are healing well.
5. Permanent Teeth: Finally, it will be time to provide your permanent teeth. These teeth are created to match your other teeth in both shape and color. An attachment piece, which will enable your new tooth to be secured to the implant itself, will be placed and then your new, durable, natural-looking tooth will be locked to the attachment.
When this process is done, you will have new teeth that look, feel and act just like your natural teeth. The care for your new implants is the same as for all your other teeth–thorough brushing twice a day, flossing once a day and regular visits to our office for preventative care.
